  1. My current procedure is to extract the wav and avi from my .avi file using VirtualDub and then encode a SVCD with TMPGEnc using the TooLame as an external tool.

My source file is a 48 kHz avi. If I extract it using full processing mode to 44.1 kHz and then encode using that same frequency, the video has very hollow and poor sound quality--similar to that of a screener rip.

To correct that problem, I have been trying to extract with VirtualDub and encode with TMPGEnc at 48 kHz. Unfortunately, TMPGEnc gives me the following error message:
File D:\DOCUME~1\TKuc\LOCALS~1\Temp\mpa_7.mpa can not be opened.

I presume this is because the SVCD standard is 44.1 kHz. Maybe it is because of some inherent limitation in TooLame?

Someone please let me know if there is some way to fix the 44.1 kHz audio so it's not so terrible, OR, if there's some way to make a SVCD at 48 kHz that would avoid my error.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  2. Your problem isn't with tooLame, it's the sample rate conversion being done by TMPGEnc, you can use SCMPX or SSRC as external tools, these do an excellent job and will fix your problem. You may be able to leave your audio at 48k, it's not SVCD spec but apparently DVD players can handle it.

  3. TMPGEnc's sampling rate convertor sukks that why i always use SSRC to convert it to 44.1

  4. Thanks guys. The SSRC seems to be working as an external tool. I haven't finished encoding, but didn't get that same error message.
