  1. Hi

I've been searching for this matter a lot, and have some tips, but not really THE good solution

my jvc dvd-rw produces .vro with an ac3 soundtrack.

when i load the renamed .vro -> .mpg in adobe premiere 1.5, i can preview the file (with sound), but when I drag it to the timeline, the sound is gone. I suppose it's beacause premiere can't handle dolby digital? Would adding the surcode plugin be my solution to quickly edit my file and write to dvd?

if not, what would be the best way? de-multiplexing the file, convert .ac3 to .wav and somehow multiplex them again? or is it possible to load a .wav and .m2v together in adobe premiere, so they act as 1? because else i'm afraid I'll loose sync if I reorganise my video chapters.

    thx in advance

  2. Surcode is an expensive option, and way to excessive for your needs I'd say, as I am certain there is a workaround. You're right that Premiere can not deal with AC3 files though.

I am no expert, but I think it's fairly straightforward to convert AC3 to wav/mp3 with a programme like HeadAC3he. You can then bring the wav/mp3 into Premiere. If you want to author back onto DVD again,
you can convert the audio back to AC3 with a programme such as ffmpeggui (very good prog I have heard).

I don't think you'll have any sync problems, but perhaps someone more qualified can confirm this. I'm really not qualified myself to answer this for sure, but I'm just saying what I think I have understood from other similar threads.

VideoReDo also does all the things you mentioned, and its a whole lot cheaper.
