  1. Okay I have an xvid file that is REALLY getting on my nerves.

My standard setup is running dvdSanta to convert all the xvid's to vob's then using TMPG DVD Author to make the menu and final output.

I have 1 xvid that when I start to use dvdSanta it will error out after about 5 seconds of encoding. I have watched it and it playes just fine. checked the aspect ratio and its no different than some of the others that were in the same list to be converted.

Basically I deiced to use dvdSanta to get all the xvids but that 1 file it worked flawlessly like it did before this 1 file.

Then I had the thought I could within Tmpg DVD Author add the 3 episodes at the beginning and insert the file in in the middle point.

But alas its xvid and not supported. I then got another converting program (Cucusoft AVI to VCD DVD MPEG Converter Pro) this did convert the file to an mpeg file but it only convert is to 4:3 this is even after going into the settings and ensuring it was set to 16:9 (I tried it 2 times just ot be sure).

So when I try ti import the 4:3 into the 16:9 track it says it can't...

Can anyone tell me why Cucusoft AVI to VCD DVD MPEG Converter Pro and dvdSanta are not owrking on this 1 file that they work on all the rest for?

  2. Try tmpgenc plus, or xpress, Mainconcept mpeg encoder, CCE, QuEnc, Freenc. One of them will probably work.

  3. Yeah I am just wondering why all of these programs are having problems converting this file when it watches/plays just fine.

That an AVI plays fine, says very close to nothing about the quality and integrity of the AVI. Players are fault tolerant - encoders want each and every frame to be decodable. Compare to DVD-R, that can be impossible to duplicate because of read errors, but play without problems in the DVD player.
