I just got this e-mail from a website that deals with "prosumer" and "professional" DV gear and I found it very interesting:

HDV IS HERE: CineForm Aspect HD for Premiere Pro 1.5

Believe the hype when it comes to Cineform and all their products, I know it sounds to good to be true but CineForm has found a way to capture, edit, export in HDV with Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 without any 3rd party accelerator cards. What does that mean? Well it uses your Pentium4 2.8 GHz or Athlon FX Processors (of course they recommend higher for optimal performance) and turns your computer into a Non-Linear HDV Editing Turnkey. This isn’t just some plug-in, this all inclusive software for Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5, that has taken the right step. If you are Premiere Pro user this means you won’t have to upgrade to latest software version that supports HDV or have to take time learn new editing software.

How do they do that? Well this can get very confusing if you don’t, but one way to explain it, is that work inside, or in harmony with Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5, to use your over all CPU and GPU in exchange of an internal accelerator card. Using there AVI wrapper file you can capture, edited and export in HDV. However there is compression going on when it takes your HDV MPEG source and converts it to CineForm’s AVI wrapper file, but compression isn’t such and bad thing anymore. CineForm has proved that with their side by side comparison. Exporting it takes AVI wrapper file and converts it back into MPEG to than be put on your DVD, Tape, or WMF, exc.

Now this means you are going to need a HD Source so now it’s time upgrad your old DV camera to HDV, there are two companies that are leading the charge on the HDV market. Sony has there HDR-FX1 HDV, and HVR-Z1U (Available at our store). JVC has there two JY-HD10U HD and GR-HD1 are all supported camcorders to use with CineForm Aspect HD, and the JVC HM-DH30000U DVHS Deck is also recommend to use. CineForm will be supporting other HDV cameras and HDV Decks as they come out to the market. Don’t worry this won’t be last you will be hearing of HD and HDV, it here and going to stay.
I really know nothing about the HDV format but I looked up just a few links on it and found that this CineForm software supports 480p60, 576p50, 720p30, 1080i50, 1080i60 ... I then looked up the above mentioned SONY HVR-ZIU HDV cam and I found out the following for this model:

The HVR-Z1U is Sony's first attempt at a mini-sized camcorder for the newest high definition monitors. The camera records in 16:9 widescreen with native widescreen chips. It will output component video in 1080i, 480i and 480p formats. In fact it will output 60 frame, 50 frame, 30 frame and 25 frame standards. An additional function is HD to SD down conversion. Another feature of the camera is the CineFrame Mode that replicates the look of film production. The mode has 30 frame, 25 frame and 24 frame modes that utilize a 3:2 pull down conversion.
Very expensive stuff but the fact that just about anyone can now do HDTV resolution work at home on a normal computer for less than the price of a cheap car ... impressive.

    Just thought I would share.

  4. CineForm Aspect HD is a plug-in for Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 only, CineForm Connect HD is program that uses it's own capture program and export program. Aspect HD takes advantage Premiere's plug-in technology and takes over you whole computer as if a intrenal card. The new update for Premiere 1.5 uses CineForm's CODEC and it will also be in windows media player as well.
