I just got a new asus dvde616p2 dvd-rom, and i can use dvd shrink to read my dvds for backup. i tried to update the OSD, but there update doesnt work.

I tried to update my new asus p4p800s-x mainboard, but the included software updater doesnt work correctly either.

Having just come from all MSI products, I am greatly disappointed with asus's customer service, software packages, and hardware hangups.

Oh well, what can you do right?

If anyone has any ideas of how i can make my new compy work correctly, I would be indebted.

Ignore the updater, go to the ASUS website (US or TW) get the recent driver set directly and install if newer then the one you have.
As to ASUS quality, I dropped them long ago after seeing a mountain (!) of ASUS MB returns by local dealers (that was a major distributor's warehouse). Don't know why but they do fail and a return rate was staggering. Switched to Gigabyte and ABIT and could not be happier.

Funny, you think ABIT is better than ASUS?

This is the same ABIT that had capacitors on their motherboards literally EXPLODING, yeah?

    Some HIGH quality there.

Good quality comes from... Tyan, Gigabyte, and ASUS's expensive boards.

If you've just got a NEW DVD-ROM and Motherboard, why would you want to update them? They should be up to date anyway......

  5. I'm very happy with my ASUS board. It's the best board I've bought so far. I had two Intel boards that were junk.

Ive always owned Asus Motherboards, even with my previous Athlon XP 2600+ and have never had a problem with Asus boards.

And my current Asus MB beats any other Athlon board out there.

I've had TYAN mobos melt at the power connector.

I've had ASUS boards arrive DOA

I've had MSI mobos just not work

It all depends on the batch you get....
