Everyone hear the news that Microsoft aligns with Macrovision on analog feeds.
Sounds like future versions of Media Center will be severely limited with respect to recording TV. Things like recorded video only good for a day and crap like that.
Just a while back on this site so many people defended Microsoft for their stricter software registration policies. They went on and on about how it only affects illegal users of their software. That may be true but how does this decision affect legal future users of Media Center?
I'll tell you, the software gets worse not better. How is that for payback of legal paying customers like myself (I just purchased MCE 2005), plus the additional hardware required to work with it.
Where are you defenders of Microsoft now? Oh I know you will say there are ways around it. But that is not the point. I want easy to use, good quality PVR software in my PC with the ability to take it to DVD. Plain and simple. In the future I want this plus the capability to encode and decode on my PC 1080i. That is progress, moving forward, things get better, not worse.
I don't condone copying software, but Microsoft is not standing up for our legal rights that we have right now. That was my arguement against Microsoft previously and this anouncement about Macrovision continues to confirm this. What product does Microsoft hope to sell in the future, who wants Media Center that can't record TV? That was my #1 reason for purchase, not to display pictures, any software can do that.
Where can I get a Linux package complete with remote control / USB blaster for my satellite box? I need to start converting so I have a hope of a decent system in the future.
Will any Linux apps work with my hardware I have now, including this MCE2005 remote / IR blaster? Which actually works pretty good in MCE and is a simple straightforward remote control.
