When do you think dual-layer blank media will become more prevalent?
And when do you think the price will drop to a more realistic price?
The dual-layer discs are all but impossible to find around here, and the best price is $20.00 for a 3-pack.
I waited until DVD+R's were down to $2.00 a piece before I bought a burner (I paid $168.00 for an LG GSA-4040B and got a hell of a deal at the time).
I won't buy a DL burner until the discs get down to around $2.00 a piece.
On the plus side, some of the really bad-ass DL burners are only $100.00, so by the time the media gets down to a reasonable price, the burners should be freakin' sweet and still only about $100.00 for the best ones.

I just don't remember how long it took for the DVD+R's to get down in price.....
now they're less than $0.50 and you can find them everywhere.
any thoughts on when the DL's will be as 'accessible'?

  2. Single layer DVDs took a while to come down to a 'reasonable' price. That was because the initial penetration is always slow. Plus the writers were also expensive. But the market has caught on now. DL writers are already affordable and I expect that DL DVD's will come down to $2 in a year's time and maybe a $1 or less two years from now.

yes, very good points, but I guess I just hoped the market penetration would 'balloon' quicker because of the already established demand for and use of single-layer burners & media
    i can't wait dammit, i'm impatient!

We've all been waiting for not only the price of +R DL to drop, but for there to be a wider hardware base for -R DL. I'm growing impatient.

I suspect that once the single layer burners hit their speed ceiling, there will be more pressure to get DL shifted into high gear
