  1. I'm trying to copy a DVD+RW that I made on my LiteOn 5101 to a DVD+R. There is no copy protection involved. I am using an AMD64-3500 with a Benq 1620 burner and a LG DVD player. I am using Sonic Record Now Deluxe to either make a Data Disc by copying the files to the burner, or Exact Copy.

Most of the time this results in a cryptic error saying there was a problem writing to the burner when it is 50%-75% complete. I am using Benq 8x media. Even dropping the speed down to 4x does not help.

I can copy the files from the player to the hard drive, then use Sonic to burn it from there and it works fine. The problem only occurs when I am copying directly from the DVD player to the burner.

The IDE controllers are using DMA.

Any suggestions on how I can eliminate the coasters? TIA

Of course!!! Never copy from DVD disk to DVD disk on the fly. That results in most cases in a coaster as you are experiencing. Always copy to HD first and then burn.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

Yep, i don't know why, but i know a few people that still do "drive to drive" but they still set it to go from drive A to HDD to drive B, i stopped doing "on the fly" burning way back in the day of just CD-R's... why take a chance
But if you don't have a big enough HDD to do it, i don't know why anyone would have such a small HDD nowadays but, i guess there is not much choice.

You guys would have loved Henny Youngman.
The patient says "Doctor, it hurts when I do this." "Then don't do that!"

I wanted to save the aggrevation of having to wait 5 minutes or so to copy it to the HD, then back to the burner. That's a PIA. Is it because it is sharing the same IDE channel?

When I had to copy a CD (back in the old days-my last computer-2 weeks ago), I had a SCSI Plexstor and I just copied it directly from that to the IDE CD burner. No problems whatsoever. Now you guys are telling me with DVD's "don't do that". Heck, there should be a way around this problem. Maybe use another IDE channel?

    Does anyone know?

"Doctor, my leg hurts. What can I do?" The doctor says "Limp!":P

Still, no matter how troublesome you think it is: It doesn't work reliably. Having the reader & writer on different IDE channels might help, but it's still pretty high up on the "don'ts" list for DVD duplication.

I can do a direct copy on my computer...but still don't do it often....and only at 4x (since my burner is only 4x in the first place)....
    Direct Copy?...No Editing?
Make an ISI image with DVDDecrypter then burn with the same. Do yourself a favor and make an image(or use file mode) and watch the read speed on your DVDRom drive...most likely it is slower than 8x...buffer or no buffer...that aint good.
You gotta do what is necessary man...don't beat yourself up over it....it ain't worth it.
You could have been done by now...

The patient says, "Doctor, I am always tired in the morning because I watch TV till midnight." The doctor replies, "Go to bed early." The patient insists, "But I want to watch TV till midnight and be fresh in the morning! I want another remedy. What kind of doctor are you?" The doctors smiles, "Okay, here is a prescription for a rat poison."
