I'm going to put a DVD-ROM in a friends PC. He has a CD-RW in it now if the master position on the secondary IDE. Would it be best to put the DVD-ROM in the Slave position or switch it to master and put the CD drive to slave? All the PC's I've worked on have the ROM in Master and burner in slave by default.

Hi,
DVD-Rom should be master and CD-Burner slave.
This is based on the available documentation I have read regarding DVD-Roms, I have owned 3 for the past 3 years.
Another setup could be:
1. Hard disk Primary Master
2. CD-Rom or burner Primary slave
3. DVD-Rom Secondary masterNo tengo miedo a la muerte. Solo significa soņar en silencio. Un sueņo que perdura por siempre. .. -
Honest to God it doesn't matter at all. I would suggest having your main HDD on IDE-0 Master, but after that it won't make one damn bit of difference...
Your base? Well, they belong to me now... -
studtrooper is ok. But I had worked with some motherboards that were forcing something: on the secondary channel one was forced to put the device in MASTER (SECONDARY MASTER) orelse the MB was`nt able to boot.

I personally don't see where it should matter that much either, but seeing as every PC I've worked on had the DVD-ROM in the master position and the Burner in the slave position, I thought perhaps there was a reason for it that I knew nothing about. Thanks for the input on it.
