Im thinking about transfering all my dvd copies from a huge book to black dvd cases.
Does anyone feel like explaining how they label them, (photocopies of the original covers etc) or even posting some pictures?
If it turns out that its a huge hassle, hey, maybe I wont bother. It does seem that it would be a better way to keep them organized.
Hopefully I get some good feedback!!

i think you're better off keeping them in a dvd book/case rather than putting them into seperate cases. because if you put them into cases they will take up more space. you would also have to go through the hassle of printing out all those covers. not only is there the hassle but it would cost quite a few euro/dollars/sterling for all the cases/ink/paper. i find that a 1 large dvd case is much more convienent and easier to use than individual cases.

I use paper sleeves and print a capture of the DVD menu on the front of the sleeve. Works great and doesn't take much space. I use Ant movie catalog to keep track of them and just keep them in alphabetical order

I keep all mine in standard dvd cases with full artwork from the original.
It's not that expensive, 100 dvd cases for 22.00 shipped, 100 sheet's of epson glossy photo paper 33.00, and if you have a printer that you can refill, i have 2 canon's that are easily refilled with indavidual color tanks & now an R200 with the CIS, bulk ink is pretty cheap!!!!
I keep my original, rare & import's in a dvd cabinet in my bedroom and the backup's in the living room cabinet for the kids, grandkids, company, ect. -
I use http://daprogger.mine.nu/ This site is the best i've come across just copy the address and have fun. It takes a while to download but the results are excellent. If you don't have broadband try www.cdcovers.cc

daprogger is slow as hell and im even on DSL!!!
Also if you run a firewall (i have norton ISP 2005) and their site wont let you in to search without deactivating it, i have seen other's complain about this also!!!! i don't want to surf a slow site that won't let you in without protecting yourself!!! -
I use printable DVDs and place them in clear, plastic slim-line cd cases.
Use an MS SQL server to catalog them, with a web server on my home network so I can view the list over my intranet. Total geeksville. -
I wouldnt mind finding some quality cases to keep them in. You can buy 3/$1 at any dollar store buy their cheap and break easily.

I use standard size clear plastic cd cases and insert artwork. Artwork is either scanned from original or obtained from above mentioned sites, also dvdlister.com or dvdplanet.com (BTW great prices to buy dvd's). I then do my best to trim it to fit in photodeluxe. Covers are created using software included with cd stomper label system (I forget the name, creates labels and inserts), though now I print directly to dvd's as I have also had some labels come loose along the edges and unbalance dvd. The cases take up much less space than dvd cases, and still allow easy browsing by reading the title on the edge. They can be had from most mail-order places like rima.com for about $15 per 100. Best of luck!

I use standard dvd cases with paper sleeves. I use Cannon Matte photo paper.
I use CoverXp to print covers.
I don't have a scanner, so I need to get the covers from these sites.

i download the covers from a variety of sites (they all seem to be UK sites....)
then use PhotoShop to clean them up, get rid of bullshit (Rated 18, lists of special features that I didn't bother to include, etc...) and resize them to actually fit into the cases that I use
I buy the slimline case from CompUSA -- they're just over half as thick as standard DVD cases.
BUT, I think I'm gonna stop using cases and switch to the big books that you want to get away from -- i'm running out of room!!"To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." - Steven Wright

I print covers at work. I download them from cdcovers.cc and use coverxp to print them.

Saves alot of space and ink to print the covers. Only problem is that they are hard to locate, but if you don't mind that it's an easy, cheap and protective way to store your dvds.
I perfer my disc(s) to be seated on the hubs.

When stacked in the shelves you only see the spine anyway. So... looks good and saves a bunch in ink that I would have to pay for. Amazing how many spines a 30ml color cartridge will do.
Thats one option. -
Oh yea, I use binders and for inventory I use: http://collectorz.com/ (dvd one). It also allows you to keep track of the dvds you rent out to ya buds. Cool stuff. Anyone else use it?

Looks nice Regal. Now if only it was free
The problem with most of these programs like 'collectorz' is the amount of time it takes to enter your collection. Most of the ones I've seen you have to enter one by one, rather than just typing a list and importing it
Oh, and I 'label' my DVDs with a Sharpie and put them in Tyvek sleeves, currently. -
Use 'undercoverxp' to print your covers. It's free & will also resize your covers to fit the slim cases. http://jump.to/undercoverxp

AMC, ant movie catalog can also download all the info from imdb or other online movie databases. If you have a simple text list of your films, you can load them in a batch file and ant will download all the relavent info automatically, even thumbnails. It even has many output options.

Collectorz.com,, while uploading covers and description does not really take that long. I do not upload the back covers, just the front and all the info to the movie. Keep in mind that you can change the setting to what sites you want the program to get its info. I found that I use dvdempire and IMDB, and sometimes amazon to get the info and have it upload.
At 56k, I dd over 80 dvds profiles in less then a hour.
So you get the idea if you are on cable. I find it finds better if you select to put in title of movie, not by bar code also. Cheers*New Mac user*, been PC user 4 life -
