  1. ok, here's the situation.

there is a movie that's only on VHS in the US and UK, on german region 2 (ie, PAL) DVD. the only problem is, the audio is german language only. there's no original english language track.

however, i have downloaded the movie as a 23.97fps AVI.

what i want to do, is have my english audio from the AVI synced to the existing mpeg video (that i can rip from the DVD). then i'd re-author the DVD.

    should i re-encode my video as a 23.97fps mpeg-2?

should i change the sample rate of the audio to sync up with PAL?

how can i make sure the audio is synced with the video?

i don't know what way is best.. has anybody done anything similar to this before?

    thanks

It probably doesn't matter much which way you go. Purists would say reduce the video to 23.976 as it is closest to the original film framerate of 24 fps. If you can play NTSC (you should be able to) then that's probably the easiest way to go. The only way to see if it's in sync is to do a sample - say 5 minutes, then check to see if it works. Unless it is very slowly going out of sync, 5 minutes should let you see any issues.

This is very difficult to succeed, not from a technical point but from a practical one!

Scretch the audio so to match the PAL video is the easiest thing to do. IMO always

If you are lucky, and it is the same movie edit, that shall work.
