for some reason my dvd rom drive does not recognize any media i put into it...cd/dvds that i have burned...purchased cd/dvds
windows xp recognizes it as a drive that is working properly but i have no idea what is wrong with it...perhaps it's dead?
i tried checking all cables to see if it's plugged in properly but no dice
any ideas on what's going on or what i can do before i decide to trash this drive?
thanks for any help

Is it possible to try out the drive on a friend's computer?

well i took it out and i immediately heard something rattling...as if the lens was no longer connected...so i guess it's time for a new drive
