  1. OK here is the story. I train Martial Arts and a put together a DVD for my instructor. There is part of the DVD where he narrates. Well he mentioned a name that got him in some trouble. He wants me to go in and beep the name.

But my external harddrive with the project on it crashed. I no longer have any of the footage. I have copies of the DVD that I ripped to vob and nfo files. Is there a way i can just edit the vob file and add the beep? I tried converting it to mpg then back to vob but when I re-burn it I get errors and the menus are messed up. Whenever I try and edit and convert back I notcie the filesize of the vob changes drasticly. I suppose it needs to stay the same?

    Anyone have some suggestions?

    Thanks

  2. It is possible, but not a very easy job... You need to edit the vob with an hexeditor and you will need profund knowledge of the file stucture (mpeg/vob is more or less the same on this level). Maybe womble would also keep the vob intact, but I'm not sure about it. As audio inside mpeg (or vob) is constant bit rate, it would be possible to replace the audio frames with silence, but again, it is realy hard work.
Normally it should be possible to demultiplex the vob files (all vob files of this movie!), edit the mp2 (if it is mp2?!) audio with mp3directcut, remultiplex to vob and ready. But it highly depends on the structure of the dvd...

Womble MPEG Video Wizard can easily edit your VOB, and it has a 30 day free trial. There should be no re-encoding except for the edited portion(s), and it supports AC3 audio.

First I would create one large VOB from the DVD using DVD Decrypter (free):
    1. Insert DVD and start DVD Decrypter.
    2. Click Tools/Settings/IFO Mode Tab.
    3. In the File Splitting Option select NONE, then click OK.
    4. Click Mode/IFO.
    5. Click the Input Tab and you will see the Program(s) & Chapter(s).
    6. Select the Program you wish to rip.
    7. Choose your Destination and Rip.

Next I would start MVW and open the VOB created above.
    1. Edit as needed.
    2. Export the edited file as an MPEG2 file.

Now it's time to re-author with your favorite program.
(TMPGEnc for easy stuff, Ulead DVD Workshop 2 for the not so easy stuff would be my choice.)

  4. Why not just use dvd shrink and edit the name out by splitting the video right before he says the name. Its crude but it is a solution.

  5. Hey guys thanks for the help. I will see if any of this works but it may not.

The thing is I do not have all the animated files and everything else I used to create the menus. To recreate this is hours and hours and hours and I still probably would not get it exact. I guess I should mention the DVD has been released and sold and this will be the second batch out for sale. Thats why I need to keep the menus and everything the same. I just want to edit out just that one spot where he mentions someones name and have the menus and the "Easter Eggs" be in tact.

I tried to "demux" the vob to mpg and re-edit back to vob but that did not work because the vob went from 1gig to 2gig. obviously that kept the menus from working correctly. In fact I couldnot even get it to burn.

    Thanks again

That's a pretty solid idea...but I thought you could only trim the beginning and end of your movie, not selectively choose something in the middle??

What you do is you hit reauthor and then you drag the movie over from the right side to the left .

    You essentially do this twice.

This way You can edit the name you want out and then also have the rest of the movie continue after that.

you have to let dvd shrink create a new movie from the two edited clips you put in to the left pane.

This will not work for me because I do not want to re-author the entire DVD. I don't have the still shots or the menu animations anymore. I need to just edit .05 seconds of an audio track on one of my VOBs

  15. YOu can't edit out just the audio.
I suggested that you use it to edit the video (and consequently audio)
    out.

I tried that but I had a hard time getting the file to remain the exact same size...
