  1. I sometimes use my PC to record TV shows I later want to watch. I use Intervideo DVD Creator to capture and then convert to divx and burn to DVD. But I would like to skip the convertion and burn the captured mpgs and watch those on my DVD player but there I run into problems.
The captured mpgs display the wrong file duration. That is not a problem for viewing on the PC, but my hardware DVD player displays the same wrong duration and stops playing the disk when that duration is reached.

And my question is: Is there any way for me to fix the mpg file so that it reports the correct duration?

I am not sure that a firmware upgrade for the DVD player would help here, so a way to fix the mpg file would be greatly appreciated.

This sounds like it would work to correct your problem, even though is for something else. Just choose mpeg2 instead of mpeg1.

  3. Right on. I tested this on a 5 min capture which VLC reported being just over 1 min. And it worked. The new clip reported the correct duration.

Thank you very much, I had given up on this one.

  4. I kind of jumped the gun there. The trick with tmpgenc was successfull in correcting the duration error (correct duration reported by VLC), but I was still having problems with my Denver DVD-438 player. But now I have figured it out.

The problem was clip size. If the mpg is smaller than 1024 MB, there is no problem. But when it goes beyond that, the player cuts them short, presumably at the 1024 MB limit.

So now, I just capture into several 1024 MB files, and problem "fixed"
