  1. Help is mucho appreciated on this one...

I want to convert an unknown type of file to an MPEG so I can burn it onto VCD...

One computer (winxp, high end PC) downloaded a file and plays it just fine... as the PC reads it with ATI card, it says file is of that type (ATI file)... I don't know what kind of a file it really is beyond that. VCDeasy will NOT recognize the file type to burn it, nor will it convert.
Moved the file to another PC with WinXP, and it says the file is a "video clip" that it wants to open with WMPlayer. TMPGEnc will also not recognise the file to convert it, and on ANOTHER computer with WinXP (probably missing codecs) the file won't play at all, even...

Anyway, who can suggest a programme or course of action to convert this file based on the crude info above so I can burn it onto a VCD...?
Any and all help would be appreciated.

Kinda sounds like an avi. Try GSpot or similar to see what codecs it uses.

  3. I'll try that...
what might I have to do next (after I download Gspot and determine file type) to convert the file using TMPeng or VCDeasy to burn as a VCD...?
