  1. I'm thinking of buying this PDA http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=58-109-007&depa=0

What I want to do is then convert files to either QVGA or VGA for playback on the PDA. So what is the resolution for QVGA? I think VGA is 640x480. Also what programs will convert say AVI to mpeg at the required resolution? Thanks for any help.

You can use MainConcept to encode to 320x240.

I don't really know much about the PDA's myself. I want one to be able to get to the net via bluetooth with my cell phone and be able to check any of my four security cameras. Then I was think well I could also use it for entertainment like play games or watch a movie when I'm away from home. I guess I need to determine what format uses the least memory then convert the movie files to that format.

Looks like a nice unit. However I bought the Compaq IPaq h6315. Has bluetooth, phone and GPS capability. I use Beyond TV to record to MPEG 2 via a PVR 250 and then convert at a time I specify to IPAQ High Standard (Half hour show takes 15 minutes to convert). I then drop the file onto a removeable 1GB Secure Digital card and plug it into the IPAQ. A 2 hour movie uses 64mb of space. So one can drop quite a bit of video on a 1GB card.

  5. Along with MPEG and Divx. You could down load the MS Windows Encoder. It create into its base video format of WMV. It may still be limited to 320 x 240.

Check the tools section here. There are some conversion program to do video to a Pocket PC.

Playing a video while wating in a long line is greate! Just remember to pick up an extra battry.

PS: QVGA is 320 x240. Note most of the pocket PC I have seen. The norma form of the screen is 240 x 320. or VGA 480 x 640. Even though the "screen" can be rotated in the later forms of Pocket PC.. Some program dont like the change.

  6. Thanks everyone. I believe what I need is a program that will convert a non protected DVD into the smallest file format that can then be played back via Windows Media Player 9.0 for the PDA. For example I would like to take a 100 minute DVD movie down to a file size of say 100MB for viewing on a PDA (if possible) via Windows Media Player 9.0. The whole process needs to be simple for me to figure it out.

  9. Much smaller and the quality would be unwatchable.
