  1. Hi,
I am pretty new at this and was wondering if someone can explain in plain english the burning options in DVD Decrypter when trying to decode and burn a dvd. I usually use DVD Shrink to analyze, encode and burn all in one. Sometimes it encounters an error. DVD Shrink usually is pretty slow to use all three steps. When there is an error, I would use DVD Decrypter to decode the file and then use DVD Shrink to burn it. (not sure why the error usually doesnt pop up when I use DVD Decypter)

Under mode, I have it checked under "file". Then I use DVD Shrink to open the file that I just encoded to burn. My question is under mode, there is also "IFO" and "ISO"....what are those options? (do I ever need to use them?)

    Thanks a lot guys!

DVD shrink doesnt burn anything. Are you mixed up with the two?
What you should do is: open disc with shrink>analyze>encode>then set shrink to burn ISO with decrypter, and it will open on its own and then take it from there.
Any errors you get are totally dependant on the disc, its condition and/or what settings you have checked (or unchecked) in the programs.
If the disc it scratched then it doesnt matter what program you use, it will give you error messages regardless.

  3. As you realize, File mode rips the IFO, BUP and VOB files verbatim off the DVD, removing CSS encryption as it goes.

ISO (read) mode will do almost the same thing, but it will put all the files in an ISO disk image instead of ripping them to separate files on your hard drive. Since it creates a disk image, it also preserves the structure of the disk, and copies all files off the disk (not just the ones in the VIDEO_TS directory).

IFO mode is an advanced title (and optionally stream) processing mode. Put simply, it lets you take the DVD apart, ripping just the movie off the DVD for example.

It sounds like you are transcoding. For now I would avoid IFO mode altogether.

My method is: DVDShrink all the way. If Shrink fails for some reason (mostly due to a damaged/scratched disk), I try DVDDecrypter in ISO Read mode. Has so far never failed. Then open ISO with Shrink and continue.
