  1. Forgive me if this is old hat but I tried to search this one out and found nothing like it here.

I started with 2 .avi (DivX 5.0) files and used Quicktime to merge them into one .mov file, DivX 5.0 640 x 352, 25 fps, 1.392 Mb, 01:51:51 in length.

I set it to encode to DVD with the intention of squishing it down later with DVDRemaster to fit on one DVD-R.

It encodes to about 36 minutes each time (tried twice) and then says Finished.

Wait, is this one of those "won't handle .avi over a gig" things and I need to export to .dv and then encode into DVD?

Thanks for your infinite patience Major.

  2. Joining with Quicktime should make a .mov file which has no size limitation, perhaps you could try using "Decode with Quicktime" (with "DVD ffmpeg") to see if it changes anything?

I'll try that out soon and let you know.

  4. Opps, I nuked the file. I'll try it again in a week or so.

  5. I've seen this type of thing happen once or twice, and my guess was that there was something wrong with the file that caused an error/termination. (I don't have such a file currently around)

If I remember correctly, it's been a while, my solution was to use decode with quicktime (DVD ffmpeg) with the 3ivx codec installed and removing the divx codec to make sure 3ivx was used. (If needed run the avi through DivxDoctor if 3ivx does not work initially) Most likely I was starting from a mov so decode with ffmpeg was not an option at the time.

    Cheers
