HI,
I'm just built my new P4 system, running WinME. Loaded Cinema Craft SP 2.5. When I try to encode something from an AVI file I keep getting * Couldn't find appopriate video codec for 'dvsd' *
Any suggestions??
Thanks in andvance,
BT

Just some more info.
The clip is an AVI file from my DV camcorder and I have loaded the latest DivX codec on my machine.
Thanks,

As I remember, CCE doesn't encode DV avi's directly. You'll have to frameserve it.

BennyT,
CCE needs an installed DV CODEC to be able to encode the DV footage.
Download and install the MainConcept codec ...
You should then be able to encode your movie ....

Braindrain,
When you say *FRAMESERVE* do you mean sizing is properly to 480x480, what do you use to *FRAMESERVE*. I have done some reading and have played around with some of the more simplified encoders. I now looking to step up into the more advanced stuff. Just looking for some *VCDHELP*
Thanks,

Looks like romande might have the solution to the DV avi problem. (I haven't used CCE enough.) However, I do know for SURE that CCE won't resize. So, unless your standalone can play 720x480 (which mine can't), you'll have to re-size to 480x480. To do that, you'll have to frameserve.
You can do that with Virtual Dub or Avisynth. Try the guides on the left. -
romande,
The MainConcept *DEMO* codec did the trick, I got Cinema Craft to encode something a MPEG file, a MPV file and a VAF file. When I try to play the MPEG movie via WMP I only get audio and no video. Well...I get the funky colored animations. I get the same problem using GDivX player, only audio and no video, just a black screen. Any thoughts?? Also, is there a freeware codec that will perform the same function as the MainConcept codec??
Braindrain,
I will keep you comments in mind when I get to that step.
Thank you both,

BennyT,
CCE does not have alot of features ... resize ... deinterlace ... however, it is VERY FAST !!!!!!!
You will need to multiplex the Video and Audio to get a valid SVCD MPEG file ... SVCD or XSVCD is the better choice !!!
1. Use CCE to generate the Video file (movie.mpv) ....
2. Use BBMPEG or TMPEnc to generate the audio file (movie.mp2) ...
3. Then multiplex both files with BBMPEG ...
I have an ATI AIW Radeon that captures at .. 480x480,10 Mbps, progressive MPEG2 .. I use Flask to framserve to CCE ... CCE encodes the video and reduces the bitrate to 2.6 Mbps ...
I just bought the Sony TRV-730 Camcorder and the Pinnacle Studio DV firewire card ... the DV footage I now have is .. INTERLACED, 720x480 , 6 Mbps ...
So I will have to use Virtualdub to .. DEINTERLACE .. RESIZE .. and FRAMESERVE to CCE to generate the video file in an acceptable time period (2 hrs instead of 30 hrs with other encoders like TMPEnc)
TMPGEnc encodes audio much faster than it does video .. it has alot of features for sure .. BUT IT IS GOD AWFUL SLOW ..
Hope this helps ...

BennyT - You can check out this thread:

It doesn't deal with DV material, but it does explain a little on frameserving.
Instaed of using the VFAPI Converter, just point the script to your real DV.avi.
