  1. I now have three xvid avi files in my downloads. One works great, one doesn't work with anything.

Now for the third, Gspot says
This is a valid AVI file.

The filesize is 690 MB (or 707,492 KB or 724,472,773 bytes).
Of that, roughly 651 MB (94%) is video data; the remaining 39.2 MB ( 6%) is audio. This file has 690 MB (or 707,217 KB or 724,190,853 bytes) of extra "garbage" at the end that is not part of the data yet is not marked as "junk" either. This is not usually a serious problem, however, and is unlikely to cause a problem.

G spot also says I have the codecs to run it
Rendering it happens very fast so I think it is rendering the short clip (33 frames?)

Virtual Dub doesn't complain about loading it but shows as a 0.0 file

VLC media player loads it and runs something very fast.

WMV stops in half a second.

any suggestions? I'm getting very frustrated. I've tried Dr. Divx, can't open file, I've tried MPEG Modifier, says it can't support Open DML files.

I do have FFDshow on my computer. This is a codec? or something because its not a file to run an AVI right?

THanks for any help you can give me.

FourCC codec changer says it can't open because its read only (which it is not)

It certainly sound sliek a very corrupt file to me. You could try DivxFix. Just scan for errors first to see what it says. But if VLC is having problems, I think your in for another download session.

I'm not sure if I read your post correctly though. A 690MB file that contains 651 MB video data, 39.2 MB audio data, and 690 MB of garbage. This gives you a grand total of 1380 MB (give or take a few) or one very screwed up file.

Well, I'd say that's your average downloaded AVI - at least if it's from some P2P network
