So I have this file. It's like 700MB (one CD), and it's an .avi but within it is OGG video.

Trying to play it in media player crashes both media player and explorer. Right-click it just crashes explorer.

VLC, on the other hand, will play it just fine, albeit with a lot of frame nonsense. (No seeking otherwise you lose the I frames, etc.)

VDubMod reports that there are numerous OGG encoding errors in the file - I would suspect this is what's breaking Media Player.

How do I fix it? The only obvious answer to this would be to demux it, have VDubMod convert it to xvid or something, and then remux it. This would have the added benefit of making it seekable, methinks.

Am I missing some more elegant solution? Most of the repair tools only work for standard AVI, ASF, or MPEG.

If this isn't the right place for this, go on and tow it. I won't mind!

Ogg video? So you mean theora? ogg is just a container like avi. It can container theora video and or speex, flac or vorbis audio.

Heya ppls...sorry if I'm hijacking...but dind't mean to. Just thought that since we are on the topic of repairing files....I'd add in my prob too. How do we repair wmv files which won't let us seek?
Is there a way? I've got a program which repairs avi, mpeg etc but not wmv.

    Thanks ppls.

I figured it out. Turns out my OGG filters needed updating - the errors were within spec. *sigh*
