  1. Using WMP10 when I rename a vob file to mpg the file plays just fine but if I leave it as a VOB it will not play at all even though both file types open in WMP?

    This doesn't really make sense that a simple file type should make it unplayable.

    Most likely because vob isn't a supported file format. Although the file inside the vob container is mpeg2 format, wmp doesn't know what codec to use on the vob file. When you rename it to mpg, then it knows what codec to use.
