Really weird. Worked just great day before yesterday. Last night, got home and fired up the computer. Took about a minute for the file to load up. No sound. iTunes does not play the filles at all. Videos play but stutter with no sound. I have no idea how this happened. I know some say that they didn't do anything when they actually did and that is what is causing their problems but I really did not touch anything. Didn't upgrade or install anything. Can anybody help?

Sounds like a possibly corrupted driver somewhere. (Re)install DirectX 9.0c for starters.

I'll try that out. Don't know how it could have happened all of a sudden like that, though.

Since you have Windows XP listed as your OS,
do a system restore to the last time it was working properly.
One word of advice would be to backup any files that
you may have made between now and restore date.

Ok, next suggestion - Remove and reinstall your sound card drivers

Damn, that didn't work either. I got Restore turned off as its just a waste of space and has never ever worked before. Looks like its format time for me, I hate to do this as my machine has been running great and got it like I like it.

When the same thing happened to me last year, I finally figured out it was just a dead sound card. I installed a new one and problem solved.

OK, good thing I fell asleep before going through with it. I got a sound card I bought last year but never installed it. Seems that is my last shot.

Nope. That's the first thing I though so I plugged my iPod into the line in on the speakers and they worked fine. So then I thought it would probably be the cable plugged into the back of the comp that mght be whats wrong. Plugged it into the iPod and all was fine. Plugged my headphones into the line out on the sound card and don't hear anything with that either, so its definitely the computer.

Well, I ditched the fat man and I'm running lean.

I did a format and now everything is just fine. I almost forgot how smooth this thing runs when first booted up. Thanks for the help. I guess we'll never find out why the sound just stopped working.

I got a faster computer but I just can't replace my baby. She was the first computer I ever got. I feel bad when I don't use her. She's been so good to me these past four years.
