I am encoding a clip from a DVD to 3ivx 4.5 and am encountering a dilemma.

When i extract the .m2v file from the .VOB file, the .m2v file says its resolution is 720x404. This aspect ratio is about 1.78 (16:9) but the DVD claims its 1.85:1.

Anyway, when i play it on my computer's DVD player, and i set it to normal and not full screen, the resolution looks more than 720x404 and i actually measured it and it came out to about 848x480. So does this DVD really have 480 lines of horizontal resolution or 404??

  2. It has 480 lines, but QuickTime reads it incorrectly...It is just a small bug in MPEG2 Component for QuickTime...Nothing to worry about...It does not count letterbox..

Is that bug why QuickTime reports EyeTV MPEG-2 recordings as 640x480 when they're actually 720x480 (which MPEG Streamclip reports correctly)?

if EyeTV uses quicktime, or any other program that uses quicktime, the same things will happen. Try uses quicktime-independent app like VLC player.. i think its independent.
