Brownstem & Steve2713 I believe nomorecoasters.com is Lord Smurfs site. Maybe you should P.M. him about your concerns. I would also recommend that people stay away from Philips products in general. I currently have an ongoing problem with them. I sent in a Philips Pronto remote for service, but after a month and a half they still have it and I can't even get them to tell me whats taking it so long or even whats wrong with the unit. I tried calling them on more than 5 separate occasions and every time they would tell me to try and call again in a week or two and then they would have an update for me, but they never had an answer for me and just told me to call again later. The last time I called them they told me to check back with them in another 3 to 4 weeks. At that point I got really upset ( I raised my voice a little, but was careful not to swear at them as much as I wanted to) and asked to speak to a supervisor, but they refused. So then I asked them how long would it be before I got my unit back? So I made up a number like 6 months and they actually had the nerve to say maybe. Man if they treat their customers like this then I guess don't want customers at all!!!

I on the other hand have an awesome Philips DVDR985 that is still going strong for over 2 years - never in the shop.
Brand new Philips TV for €299 - best picture in the store.
Two Philips S-VHS decks well over 4 years old - still going strong.
Also 5 Philips DVD+RW's that are as old as my DVDR985 - used and abused in both my Recorder and my computer burner...only 1 is designated for the trash because of bad burns. It will go in the trash once I find it..
And 4 BenQ +RW's....(Philips discs as well) that are over a year old...still going.
I still would NOT buy another Philips DVD Recorder but that is not 100% based on quality issues. -
hech43, yeah, it's quite possible to have a good run of luck with them (I have before with a number of products bought in three different countries). Invariably, though, you will need them (i.e., their support) at some point. But will they be there? The anecdotal accounts here suggest you couldn't throw a baby out of the window of a burning building and expect Philips to try to catch it. The only way I'd ever buy ANY other Philips product is at a big retailer with a liberal return policy and with one of those 3-year extended warranties--and then only if it was the deal of a lifetime. Why bother with a company which is so fantastically shortsighted as to provide virtually no support?
