IMGTool and NEC Writer

I've been using ImgToolBurn with my Pioneer DVR-A06 drive, works perfectly. Now, I've installed a NEC ND-3520A. ImgTool does not recognize it, or list it as an available drive. Any ideas?

Update: ImgTool looks like it is using Nero 5.5.10.32 api. This is (the best I can tell) the oem for the Pioneer drive. Is that why it does not see the NEC drive? DVDDecrypter does see the NEC drive, so it looks like the hardware is working.

If this is true, is there any way to use ImgTool Burn on the NEC drive? I don't really want to buy Nero, but is this my only choice?

I had pretty much the same problem when I got a NEC ND-3520a. You can use ImgTools Classic (not the other version), and it works perfectly. The Classic version makes an ISO, and then burns the ISO using DvdDecrypter. Works beautifully.

I just tried your advice. The ImgTool write to ISO worked fine. DVDDecrypter saw the NEC drive. When I started the write, I got an error Unable to lock device. Nothing else had it open as far as I could tell, so I hit Ignore. The system started the write, then rebooted. Oops.

So, I'm still workin' on it.

IF I bit the bullet and bought Nero 6, would that fix my ImgTool API problem?

I use ImgTool Classic, DVD Decrypter with the NEC 3520A. Have burned 4 DVDs so far with no problems.

My PC is Windows 2000.

But if you want, Nero 6 has a trial version, so you can try it.

I checked the nero site but the demo was not available. Is there any other source?

Update: My problem with DVD Decrypter not being able to lock the drive was caused by Roxio. It installs a "Drag to Disc" utility that conflicted with DVD Decrypter. I just removed that utility from the Roxio install now DVD Decrypter works.

I still wish I could use Img Tool Burn.

I have the lower model of NEC. What I have done is upgrade the Nero API layer to 5.5.10.54. This will recognize your NEC Drive.

Everything is working now. I found an OEM version of Nero which supports both drives. Now, ImgTool works with both drives. DVD Decrypter works with both drives. All is well...
