  1. -- Kinda long post --

Hi. My Pioneer DVR-106D writer has been working perfectly. I purchased a NEC ND3520A to write double layer discs. As soon as I installed the NEC, the Pioneer has stopped working. Now, the first thing to suspect would be the drive addressing, cabling, IDE channel, etc. I've checked it all, replaced the cables, tried them on different channels, everything I can think of. The drive is recognized in the CMOS, and Windows 2000 Pro reports it as working properly (for what that's worth). Still ImgToolBurn no longer sees the drive. When I put blank media into it, the system no longer reports the blank media.

The first thing I did when I installed the NEC was to try to load the Roxio software which came with the NEC. Oddly, the NEC drive would not read the Roxio disk. I was getting ready to return the NEC as DOA when I decided to try loading the Roxio from the Pioneer. I loaded the Roxio from my Pioneer drive, then the NEC drive would recognize the disk.

The next thing I'm going to try is to uninstall the Roxio and see if my Pioneer drive straightens out. Next, I'll remove the NEC and see if that clear up the Pioneer.

Any ideas? Should there be any conflict between the two devices? Should there be any problem with Roxio? I can't believe the Pioneer just decided to die.

    Thanks in advance!

I have Compaq Presario s6010v celeron 2.5 system which uses intel 845g chipset

Bios updated to current, all ide set to auto, mode to auto
xp home set to use dma if available

by default nec 3520 is reconized and set to ultra dma mode 2
it will NOT reconize ANY media.
Tried Nero 6.6.03 and 6.6.05 and RecordNow ?

device manager - force to PIO, then it will reconaize all media but dvd burns are limited to less than 2x

burner put in old win98se pc without dma shows as pio mode 3 and burns up to 8x (7:12 min/4g)

Compaq pc is on way back to Compaq for tech to look at

No solution for you, just provideing a possible simularity

  4. Update:

I was using 40-pin IDE cables. After changing to 80-pin, the drives seem to work properly now.

Thanks to the people on this forum for their advice!!!

The only problem remaining is IMGTool does not recognize the NEC writer. I'll post this as another thread.

    Thanks!
