hi, i recently downloaded some movies off the net that came in XviD and XviD Lite format that i'd like to convert to vcd or svcd so i can watch them on my home dvd player.
so the first thing i did was search for a XviD to VCD / SVCD conversion guide on google and i ended up here.
now the guide i've been reading here and trying to convert my movies with is "sefy's avi to vcd or svcd" guide which has really helped me a lot but i still have a few questions i'm hoping someone here can answer for me.
so here goes.
first of all when converting movies from XviD and XviD lite what do you generally recommend i convert them to VCD or SVCD? i should mention i want to retain as much quality as possible but still be able to fit the movies on 2 80 minute taiyo yuden cds.
secondly when using tmpgenc's wizard i'm asked to specify which mpeg file format to use ntsc vcd or svcd is what i usually choose but i noticed theres a selection called ntsc film vcd or svcd what i would like to know is the ntsc film vcd or svcd file format the one i want to be choosing for what i'm trying to do i should i just stick to what i've been doing?
ok so first things first i use gspot to identify which audio and video codec the movie i downloaded is using which is usually XviD and MP3 so i then decompress the audio using AVI2VCD and set aside the audio source and since your not supposed to frameserve after already decrompressing my audio with AVI2VCD i then start up TMPGEnc's wizard and choose my file format and click next which brings me to step 2 of the wizard here i select my video source which is the original movie i downloaded then select my audio source which is the decompressed audio file i made with AVI2VCD.
now heres where i have a question what do i generally want to set my video type, field order, and aspect ratio to?
so anyways now i click next and i'm brought to page 3 of the wizard where i'm told to only check source range and setting which brings to another page in the wizard where i specicy where i want my movie split which i understand.
what i would like to know is back on page 3 where i checked source range is there any other options i want to muck around with there or just leave them all as is?
ok now i'm on page 4 of the wizard where i set my bitrate all i usually do here is slect 80 min cd rather than the 74 min cd its set to by default. is there anything else here i should change?
now in the guide i'm told to click on expert which brings me to the mpeg setting page where i then am told to click on advanced which i do. here what do i want to set my source type, field order, source aspect ratio, and video arrange method to? and do i need to change anything else in any of the other setting tabs?
and that's pretty much it for questions from there i know what to do.
if anybody could please review the guide i'm looking at and try to answer my questions it would GREATLY appreciated.
heres a link to the guide i'm using https://www.videohelp.com/sefy/?id=encoding5.html
thanks a bunch
george

if u want the best quality on a CD check if ur dvd player can play XVCD's and look it up, plenty of guides, best thing bout it is that you can enc at higher bitrate if u don't mind 2 cds, or enc at a lower VBR to fit on on cd, + audio don't have to be fixed to 224 kbs, best is 192 (stereo) or 128 (joint), or 96 (mono) 8)
