  1. I have some very old VSH tapes I want to convert to DVD and there is tearing during play back. I have tried different VCR's including one S video. I've tried tracking and auto tracking. The tapes were made on a older VCR with a larger recording head. These tapes have high sentimental value. Any other suggestions?

  2. Try a high end JVC 9000 series S-VHS VCR with the built-in TBC/DNR processing. Those machines do a great job of correcting that problem in many cases.

here's the model numbers to look for:

    HR-S9500U
    HR-S9600U
    HR-S9800U
    HR-S9900U
    HR-S9911U

    also:
    SR-V10U
    HR-S7900
    HR-S7800

** the 9500U actually has less filters, x600+ is the "modern" series.

    PAL:
    HR-S7955EK (Europe)
    HR-S7965EK (Europe)
    HR-S8965EK (Europe)
    SR-V10E (Australia)

2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, and 6000 series VCRs do not have the DNR/TBC found in the units suggested above. They have minimal filters. While tearing MAY be corrected using just the STABILIZER in those units, it's unlikely in most cases.

The recording device may also be causing some of this. What capture card or DVD recorder is useful to know.

Yes it is. And does it play OK with a direct VCR to TV connection?
