  1. I am in the process of making DVDs for the parents of our Cub Scout pack. I think I have figured everything out - and have found a lot of answers on this site - just wanted to make sure I wasn't making any big mistakes.

I have created a slide show using "IPhotoDVD" (www. keronsoft.com) with digital photos and audio. IPhotoDVD creates a *.mpg file of the combined audio/video. I then use Cucusoft "MPEG to DVD author" to create my *.vob file. And then I use "NERO Express" to burn the DVD. The DVD plays in my DVD players in my house, but does not play on my friend's DVD player (an older model). I guess the DVDs that I create will not play on some DVD players, no matter what I do. I am burning a DVD+RW at the moment, but I will burn DVD+Rs when I make copies.

Does all of this make sense to a knowledgeable DVD person? Thank you for any response. Lisa (Cub Scout Mom)

RW's are in my opinion the least compatible to older players. If you were to try a regular "R" DVD as a test in your friend's player...you will probably have better luck.
But you are right...there is no fool-proof DVDR....some players like +R...some like -R...some like this brand...some like the other brand. Newer players are becoming much more tolerant however....MUCH more.

    Makes perfect sense (unfortunately)!

I have one DVD player at home that will not play DVDRW discs at all. Some players will also not play DVD-R, and some will not play DVD+R. Newer players are getting better with compatibility, but old players may have trouble with recorded discs.

You might ask the ones that can't play it what their brand and model of player is, then look it up to the left under 'DVD Players', then you would at least know that the problem is theirs, not yours.
