I didnt say anything about DRM . I said your File.. Do what you want.If its rented then no. Other then that your file your call,Nobody told you to skirt anything including me.

You never backed up a DVD? Your "Skirtting that.

WHOA calm down lone ranger. First off if you convert to a non DRM file then you are skirting. Second of all, when you download the file you don't own it therefor you can not do "anything" you want with it. I don't care what you do with it to be honest.
The real answer lies in completely understanding the question!

Napster hack leads to free downloads
You buy the song and then record it to remove copy-protection. How is that free downloads, exactly?

Because you don't buy it you get a free 30 day trial. Basically it is the equiv to renting a DVD for free with a voucher and then copying it and saying hey free DVD.

The difference is that if you get a free rental, you still have to return the DVD. If you make a copy, you have your own copy you can watch after returning the orginal. Of course, that would be illegal....

Well in this case the end of the 30 day trial where the DRM'ed WMV stops working is the equiv of returning the rental.

It don't matter if ur skirting DRM or not you should be able to do what you want with the files or hardware you buy. We don't live in russia you know it is mostly free here in the usa

Breaking DRM is as far as I recall perfectly legal in Russia. So perhaps the expression should be "we don't live in the USA you know it is mostly free here in ...".

You're not buying the files; if you DID you'd actually own them. In reality all you're doing is just licensing them from Napster which is licensing them from the record companies.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

exactly - think of it as a rent or lease...

almost all software you do not buy either - only a lic or right to use it.

It was legal for them to break the protection of Adobe's ebooks over there. So it should be just as legal to break the protection on a DRM'ed WMA file.
