In short, what is the best way to rip from a DVD, given that the footage ripped is to be used in Adobe After Effects 6.5?

Currently I'm using Nero Recode 2, which rips quickly, but insists on creating the ripped video is a .mp4 file ie mpeg4 video. After Effects will import this, though it flags that it doesn't recognise the format, so well done to After Effects for importing a format it doesn't think it knows.

However once in After Effects, the footage is tremendously (too) slow to work with, and outputting it as a different video format takes hours - I left it running overnight to convert 20 minutes of video to jpegs !!!

There must be a better way !!!

    All help appreciated ...

why not rip it with Decrypter, then convert it to AVI using DVD2AVI.

that would be a video file, not jpegs but.....

and it's not going to be quick process, depending on the length of the video.
