My first set of scans is from Nero 5 buring the VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS folders (NOT from burning and image but burning files). The second set of scans is DVDDecryptor burning an iso file made by TMPGEnc DVDAuthor from the Video_TS file. I really can tell a difference in the quality of the two burns. It looks to me that using Nero to burn the video files (not the image) produces the same quality burn as using DVDDecryptor with an iso image. Am I missing something here?
No, you're not missing anything. It's just a bunch of people expressing their opinions, but it's only "Their Opinions". I agree with your findings.

We're talking about digital data here not analog. It's just a bunch of ones and zeros. The job of the Burning s/w is to send the ones and zeros (in the correct format) to the burner witch then burns those ones and zeros (in the correct format) to the disk. There is simply a much higher risk of failure with the burner and media than there is for the s/w, provided the s/w is not flawed.

I switch from time to time between both s/w, only using ISO files, and I am quite satisfy. Sometimes I do not have a choice but using Nero because dvddecrypter cannot burn nero recode *.nrg files.
This is untrue. It most definately can handle .nrg's just fine.

Would burning UDF files make a difference in this test?

Also, Nero has the "Force DVD-Video Compatibility Mode" option that I cannot find on any other program.

  6. That was a great comparison. I guess maybe I should stop using Nero to burn all my DVD's ?

If nero works for you, then great.. Wouldnt bother changing something that's not broken. Remember, these tests are just examples of burns done on my machine..and even though the burn process was kept as close as possible to circumstances, there are always unseen variables. Could be something as small as CPU temperature that would make something ever so slightly different, etc.

Scans really should be taken with a grain of salt, and as long as what you're doing is producing acceptable results for you, then I wouldnt even worry about it.

I do believe the quality of burns is slightly effected pending the program used, however, the PIF/PI differences shown in this set of scans, wouldnt even be close to enough under normal circumstances to produce anything different when it comes to the playback of the DVD on a stand alone.

Like I said...most of it is really preference.
