  1. I found something out about the ad-3201, it will only output audio from the first choice on the dvd. Example if dts is listed first on the dvd audio menu then it will only output dts it will not allow you to choose dobly digital or french or anything else. You think it is allowing you to choose but when you play the disc dts will only output. you can see the problem if dobly pro-logic is listed first then that is all you will get.

  2. Stick with a Apex AD600A. Still their best single disk player.
Hopefully the 7701 (avail in Aug) will finally replace it as the best Apex.
For now the Apex 600A with N6 or GK600B firmware is still the best for all formats and MV Free and region free. and RCE proof. The 703 would still be my second chioce for an Apex unit, but the GE5803 is almost the same.

  3. I talked with tech support about the the ad-3201 audio menu problem on dvd. told them i thought it was a firmware problem and they agreed. they had people call and say they could not access any of the foreign language audio menu choices from dvd's. they understand why that is now. said they would look into this issue and get back with me. Hope they send me a firmware upgrade.

  5. Scharmack,
I am having the same problem with my Apex 3201. Any VCD I burn is out of synch. I think this is a common problem with this unit. I am returning mine today and getting the Pioneer dvd-343 it will cost me $50 more, but I have heard nothing but good things about it.

  6. I bought an Apex AD-3201 yesterday and was very disappointed. It played my burned VCD fine but when I pop in the next disc to watch the second half, it skips frames every 10 seconds, barely hear the audio, and is often distorted. Just to make sure it's not my cd, I turned it off, then on and the same skipping CD played fine. Now I tried to put the first one and it did the same. Therefore, it's the system. I read 2 reviews on the net and they reported the same problem so it's not just me. So I returned it because that was unacceptable. Since they didn't let me try it at best buy I didn't want to exchange for another one and find out it does the same. So beware, especially if you're getting it from Best Buy!

  7. Looks like they have some new models for AUgust on their site at http://www.apexdigitalinc.com/APEXindex.htm - the people who maintain the DVD list should note the flood of comments that will come.

  8. Sorry, but all of you are wasting time. My $129 GE1101P from Walmart plays them all, INCLUDING that 3500Kbps XSVCD clip. It also does 720x480 XVCD no problem. The quality is practically identical to my computer monitor, relative to my 61" TV.

Don't waste time with stuff that only half-works. Get it all!!

  10. I got the APEX 1500, its great and it doesn't have the subtitle bug you guy are talking about and I tested bitrates. Also the site hasn't put up my review BUT the APEX does indeed play Subs and plays any CDR and CDRW I've tested

Isn't this the exact same hardware as an apex 660 with
    a different box and label?
