I create a lot of slideshows on DVDs and share them with friends. However, is there a way to protect my personal DVDs so they can not be copied just like ones you buy. Thanks

No. If you don't want them copied, don't share themIf in doubt, Google it. -

Peter Jackson has a lot of haters (I'm acquainted with them) who make zillions of different recordable configurations of his discs just so it is $50-80, depending on where you live, that he won't get. If a director who is that good at fooling people he can make people believe he achieved something by destroying Tolkien's writing to the exact same tune as Bakshi did some 23-25 years before can't protect his own work electronically, I have but one question.
What makes you think you can?"It's getting to the point now when I'm with you, I no longer want to have something stuck in my eye..." -

At the very least, you may want to charge them a rental fee, if you feel that you are losing revenue.
