I create a lot of slideshows on DVDs and share them with friends. However, is there a way to protect my personal DVDs so they can not be copied just like ones you buy. Thanks

The Macrovision and CSS licenses are $$$$$$$. Realistically neither provides any real security since either can be easily broken using software or external devices.

(Seriousy, this has been asked many, many times before, and is always a target for ridicule. The answers here are among the most civil retorts I've seen - is everyone on Prozac today?)

There is one garanteed way to make certain your disc will not be copied. Don't make the content worth watching. And even then, don't expect a 100% success rate. Peter Jackson has a lot of haters (I'm acquainted with them) who make zillions of different recordable configurations of his discs just so it is $50-80, depending on where you live, that he won't get. If a director who is that good at fooling people he can make people believe he achieved something by destroying Tolkien's writing to the exact same tune as Bakshi did some 23-25 years before can't protect his own work electronically, I have but one question.

What makes you think you can?

actually they are quite cheap ... macrovision is a sliding scale but in small quantities - its about 75cents a disk and less ..

Not supposed to publish CSS fee's - but in same general area ..

no upfront fees and your replicator will charge slightly more ..

At the very least, you may want to charge them a rental fee, if you feel that you are losing revenue.

Ok, still not worth a plugged nickel. :P

    Plugged Nickel
This is US slang dating to 1888. Back when coins actually contained valuable metal, it was a counterfeiting practice to remove the silver or other valuable metal from the center of the coin and replace it with a plug of lead or other base metal. Hence, plugged nickel.

I'm aware o' great one. Just trying to interject a little humor. I had read another thread quoting prices on another board and never researched it... as usual I have stuck my foot squarely in my moputh commenting on something I really have no idea about.
