I know several people have been wanting these.
They have the 7965 and 8965 both, supposedly in stock.

    Enjoy.

People too often fall in love with these machines, and keep them forever. If they ever "fail" users go to great lengths to repair them.

  6. I bought my JVC HR-7965 from a shop in London's West End, which was near one of the Gultronics shops (why do these places all look so messy?). This was on the 1st Feb.

I didn't get the last one either, as there was a display model still there - don't know about other availability though.

If anyone wants to PM me I will send them the address and phone number (Lordsmurf; hope that this is okay) to try their luck.

Got to say, no other VCR will ever be good enough.

Keep looking on ebay too. I picked up a 7955 model on ebay for a good price. The video is in great condition too.

It was really clever of JVC to withdraw their best vcrs.

It is a shame, but the trouble is these days, is anyone really going to spend about £150 on a new VCR when a DVD Recorder costs about the same, or a DVD player can cost as little as £25...

    ...well, there was me!

VCRs are also starting to be withdrawn from some UK shops (Dixon's) and in all reality, would it be commercially viable for JVC to keep these items on the market, when that market is getting smaller?

After all, the 7965 and 8965 aren't high enough spec for a professional and is slightly too expensive for the mass market.

I wonder why JVC withdrew them though - poor sales in the first place maybe?

Well its no big loss that vcrs have been withdrawn from dixons. I never shop there; massive rip off. They also price fix and over inflate with their sister companies curry's and pc world which belong to the same company.

I think they must have been withdrawn due to poor sales. The general public will have no idea about tbc/dnr and most have no idea about svhs. They just want something to tape with and watch their old tapes. This means they buy the cheaper videos. JVC are missing out here i guess since many of the no name brands are much cheaper.

As I heard it, S-VHS (as a format in whole) has been officially discontinued. I have not verified that statement, but it seems to fit, to a degree at least. In light of this, I have stocked up on VCRs, a huge honkin' pile of blanks, and am set for the next 5-10+ years.

  13. I don't think it's been discontinued yet. In the new Argos catalogue (well the one for Ireland anyway) they still have the 5965/75 S-VHS ET VCR, which seemed to disappear from the previous season's catalogue. Maybe they just have loads of stock left over.

  14. Ok, found this I hope Gem, jvc hr-s9600EK, made in germany being sold by a guy in the UK I have found, but...........

this is the wordage from the manual and no mention of digipure or 2mb memory, can you help, thanks.

    Digital TBC/NR
Your video recorder is equipped with the Digital TBC (Time
Base Corrector) that removes jitter from fluctuating video signals
to deliver a stable picture even with old tapes and rental
    cassettes.
The on/off of Digital 3-DNR (Noise Reduction) which cuts noise
and enables clear picture reproduction is also linked to this
    function.
    * The default setting is "ON".
We recommend that you use the Digital TBC feature when...
... playing back a tape recorded on a camcorder.
... playing back a tape repeatedly used.
... using this video recorder as the player for editing.
    ACTIVATE DIGITAL TBC/NR
1 Press DIGITAL TBC/NR so that the DIGITAL TBC/NR
    indicator lights up.
c To turn off DIGITAL TBC/NR, press DIGITAL TBC/NR
again so that the indicator goes off.
    NOTES:
c If you play back a tape recorded under poor TV reception
condition, there may be cases where the picture becomes
more stable with Digital TBC/NR set to off.
c When Digital TBC/NR is set to on, if you play back a tape
where certain types of signals are recorded (using a PC or
some character generators), the playback picture may be
distorted. If this is the case, turn off Digital TBC/NR.

the link for the manual is:-

    http://www.jvc.co.uk/files/instruction_manual/ib_hrs9600.pdf

he is talking uk pounds 275.00 at the moment.

    Very much appreciate the input.

  15. The instruction wording is the same as with the 7965 and 8965.

Not sure about the digipure part, but as I understand that the 2mb is basic with a TBC.

  17. "DigiPure" is the marketing term JVC uses in North America to describe the TBC/DNR processing feature in their video gear that has it. There is a 2MB buffer version, and a 4MB buffer version. The 7000 series VCR's that have TBC/DNR have the 2MB buffer. The 9000 series VCR's with TBC/DNR have the 4MB buffer.

  18. Could someone please explain the difference between the 7965 and 8965 models.. They both look the same to me and I can't pick anything much different between their specs?

The main differences as far as I can work out from the respective instruction sheets is the 8965 has more VHS editing features.

    Compare the two manuals...

    8965:
    http://www.jvc.co.uk/files/instruction_manual/lpt0771-001a.pdf

    7965:
    http://www.jvc.co.uk/files/instruction_manual/lpt0770-001a.pdf

Oh yes, the AVI inputs at the front of the 8965 are gold plated, where the 7965's are not.

    Hope that this is helpful.
