  1. what is the bitrate for hollywood movies? im sure there are different ones but whats the most common? also are they CBR or VBR? THANKS

  2. They are mostly VBR and bitrate can be anywhere from min 0 to max 9.8Mbps. Average bitrate is commonly in the 4Mb/s to 6Mb/s range. So called 'superbit' releases use a higher average bitrate but are still VBR.

    One that I remember checking was "Gladiator", and it was running VBR from about 2Mbps up to 7Mbps or so. Some players will allow you to display the bitrate (my old Toshiba 1600 does); it's kind of interesting, from an academic standpoint.

    A very small program that I downloaded from the tools section of this site called bitrate 14 it shows a bitrate graph of a dvd when it's in your drive by title.
    I use it on my Dvd's to get some idea as to why some look good on my big screen and others look like junk.

  5. PowerDVD on the PC will show bitrate whilst playing.

    Bitrate Viewer can also be used to get a graph of the bitrate in any given mpeg file or VOB file.
