MiniDV as webcam

i have a mini dv samsung scd23

i want to use my camcorder as a webcam. it is possible, but i cant figure it out. i downloaded the trial of DVdriver 1.0

this software is suppose to do it. i can see my self on the screen. when i try to start yahoo IM....it freezes.

any other software or suggestions.........

OrangeMicro Webcam DV will allow a DV source to be used as a webcam (e.g. as Video for Windows - Netmeeting std.)

OrangeMicro Webcam DV is usedmwith the firewire connection. Thats what I use, but it it quirky and sometimes does not want to work right.

any other suggestions.....i tried the above software (trial) and i got the streaming feature to work, but i couldnt get it to work with Yahoo IM.

any other software suggestions or suggestions to help me with the above software.

You might want to talk to Yahoo IM support. That is the only software I've heard of.

I had a lot of trouble getting my sony cam to work on yahoo. I finally installed the software from sony that came with the cam. Now it works. Only thing is that the camcorder will allways auto-shutdown after about 5 minutes and there is no way to get around this. Make sure you use the usb connection with you cam on camera mode.

Does the cam still shut down if you remove the tape? The older Sony camcorders willl stay on.

will try to do this more....now, i have a samsung...there is auto shutt off, but in settings i can stop that....

for the software, is there a better IM program to use when doing this webcam chatting?

also, when doing the orange software webcamming, does the audio work from the camcorder or do i have to use a microphone?

I don't know if WebcamDV supports audio but you can always run an audio cable from the camcorder to "line in" on you audio card and select "line in" in your chat program as audio source.

the latest WebcamDV (2.0-2.1)is supposed to take dv cam as the audio source. there is an option when installing the software, to use the cam or mike as your audio source.

There is another software from the same company (eagletron)of DVdrive, called trackercamsoftware. it is free.
