  1. I just bought some different brands of printables dvd-r,
ProdiscS03 (Datasafe), Taiyo Yuden and Ritek G04. I didn't realy expect much from the ProdiscS03 bought them more on a chance and hope for the best.

Well I burnt my first ProdiscS03 today and the burningp proced without any problems. So I decide to try the disc on a dvd player. This player have played every singel disc I have put in it. I put in the disc and the player did recognize it as a dvd-video. It try to load the title and then suddenly just stop. I tried it a few times and same thing happend every time.

So i decide to try the disc in my other player(also plays everything) and the exact same thing happend in this player. Hmmm well I try the disc in my computer dvd players, then it most work I thought. They recognize the discs as my other players did, but refuse to play it.

Oki maybe a bad disc I thought and decide to try a new one. No problems burning this one either, but exact the same as above happend when I tried to playback the movie. Made a few more discs with different movies all with the same crappy result.

What is this? I mean I have burnt and tested crapy and cheap media before and have had some problems with failing burns and playback problems like skiping and freezing. But problem like i descripe in this topic have never happend to me before. What's wrong with these disc are they totaly crap???

Sorry, most people don't refer to DVD-ROM drives as 'dvd players'.

Plenty of people have complained about these discs in other threads here, it looks like your discs are no exception. At the same time, maybe you should consider a new burner, assuming that you are still using the Philips you have in your profile. It is an OLD 2.4x burner, some of this newer media actually burns better at its rated speed rather than slower speeds. An old drive like yours probably doesn't have very good support for some of the newer media codes out now as well.

Ohhh well I'm abit lazy haven't change my profile, change the old burner long time ago, so that won't be the problem.........

  7. I have burned Prodisc S03 media on 3 different burners and they have all burned without a coaster. The scans on my NEC are in the teens and even my Liteon 812S are in the 50s. I have never had a single problem playing any disc on any DVD player and I have burned hundreds over the last year. lordsmurf has burned thousands of these and swears by them. Both Prodisc S03 and Ritek G04 have been scarce for some time. Please excuse my questions but where did you get your media and are you sure about the media code. A lot of S03 media sold recently has wound up being F01.
Still a few bugs in the system...

  8. I bought those discs from the wellknown UK media seller blankdiscshop.co.uk. Sure they are S03 have checked media code. Strange thing is they even wont play in any player even thue they seemd to burn perfect.

Have you tried printable S03 or just normal S03? I'm pretty convinced that those printables are much more crapy in quality compared to normal discs.

Have burnt 100s of G04 and used atleast 5 different brands and never had a singel problem with them. I just burnt my first printable G04 and playback suck, lots of skiping and freezing

    I bought mine from Rima.com.....
    Here are acouple of scans.....

Anyone want to go mountain climbing ??

This is BS with any burner!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And for the last almost 2 years i have burned 50 minimum, up to 100 disc's a week.... and NEVER had this many coasters in 1000's of disc's.....
and these were 12 questionably good burns & 16 coasters, for just these disc's....

thats a pretty high failure %

Overall..... you are lucky to get good burns with this media.... they SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Well atleast your disc seems to be fine until the end of the disc? What about playback at your discs, do they play at all? Have you tested them in DVDINFOPro? Would be nice to se your results.....

Also read somewhere that you had Prodisc 8x dvd+r, right? They have mediacode PRODISC.R03 so not the same dye as my discs. These discs I'm talking about are 4x dvd-r ProdiscS03.

Oki here we go. Just run the disc in DVDinfopro to get the disc id:

I just made a new test of another disc. Almost the same result however this disc came a bit longer in the test. Must be something very strange with these discs. I mean the curve don't even come over 2x, usually the curv starts at 4 and go upwards. But as I wrote before I realy don't know much about these tests......

  14. Just made a test in Nero cd speed today. Looks a bit different, but as in all the other tests discs failed after about 50%.........

Noahtuck - perhaps you misread the title of the post. He is talking about S03. You're talking about R03.

No, he must have changed it because it originaly said "Prodsic Prinable" & now it does not..... and his OP was edited 2 times. I could even swear in his OP he stated the same code as mine because i remember last night looking at a scan of mine to see if it was the same code if you read my first post.......

And as far as until the end of the disc, no, they crap out around 3 gig's.....
Along ways from the outer edge.....

And i also had some scans like the one you have where it goes to total crap almost from the start on acouple but most of them are like my scans.

  17. It's obvious you'll get coasters, if you're using discs that are not on your drive manufacturer's recommended media list. Those ProdiscS03 are on the NEC 3500 list and they work just fine.
