  1. Hi,

I had some mpg2 files encoded from TMPGEnc, they were all set NTSC and at highest quality to encode.

Now I wanted to merge them together into one single mpg2 file to burn DVD, I don't like the pause between each files in DVD, the TMPGEnc kept giving me an error message saying this file or that file is not compatible with other files.

I multiplexed all the files and tried to merge them again, still got the same error message.

I can view all the files without any problem.

Any clue on this problem? Thanks a lot.

Try VideoReDo or mpeg2vcr instead. If you want something free try Cuttermaran.

the previous image was much better looking than this one.

  4. mike,

the problem could be because of different bit rates of the files. Did you encode them with constant bit rate or constant quality? If bitrates are diff tmpgenc will not merge.

Alternatively, you could encode again but with "Open sequence files as a movie" option under Enviornmental Settings > General, turned on. This will encode the input files and will create one output file which you can author to create your DVD.

  5. man, you are right!

Now I remembered that I turned on the CQ to encode the first few AVI files because I read something here on how to better use TMPGEnc to encode.

Somehow I forgot to turn on the CQ for some other files to encode, this option was not sticky.

The problem is that I deleted all the avi files after encoding, they took too much space, is it possible to re-encode the mpg2 files again ?

    Thanks,
    Mike

If the resolution and audio bitrate/type are the same then it should be possible to combine them.
I have done that a few times with mpeg2schnitt.
    It worked fine.

  7. Mike,

Yes, you can re-encode your mpeg2 file with TMPGEnc - no probs. But this time you must make sure that the files you want to merge later on, if at all, must have same video/audio bitrates.

If there is an ugre to merge your files, you can also use the alternate method I suggested earlier. That is much better because it will encode and merge simultaneously.

Only the audio type (ac3/mp2)/bitrate and resolution must be the same.
The video bitrate does NOT matter when you join the MPEG2 clips.
