just plugged in my 30 GB maxtor its IDE and seems to be making a loud noise..not a clunking noise but a fan sound seeming a lot louder than it would if it were a normal IDE..its quite worrying cos im worried in casevits on its last legs!!
i mean u can hear the spin speed normally cant u whenv u plug a drive in but this i can hear from the other room..
whass going on??

There's a software tool on Maxtor's website to lower the drive volume. Look around there. 30GB drive indicates it is several years old. Regardless, keep an eye on it.
