image overlay

Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to go about adding an image to sit on top of some video footage. I need to do this from the command line.

Now that i can post here is a solution (not the best) which works.

Transcode the video to a series of jpeg. Run the composite program to overlay your logo onto your images then re-assemble the series of jpegs back into a video and mux it with the audio track.

If there is a better way i'm open to hearing it
