Hey guys, I today purchases a Averatec 3200 Laptop. It came with winXP home and I wanted windows 2000 pro on it. I had a ghost resotre disc with my 2000 install on it.
I ran ghost and had it copy itself to the drive. Well all went well till I tried to boot it up. It gave a blue screen that said "Boot Drive Inaccessible" I formatted and tried again from scratch. Failed again, same error. So I gave up on that and pulled out the Restore CD it came with. I launched it up and it got to 14% and gave a screen that said "RECOVERY FAILED". Ever since then it will NOT even boot from its cd at all.
I have no friggin clue what to do now. I know alot about computers and have done at least 200 of these image installs and NEVER had one go this shitty.
Is there anything else I can do, or should I take it back and exchange it?

Yeah see I first thought the HD just got jacked up real bad but I still cant figure out why it wont boot from CD anymore, that should be completely separate from the HD one would think LOL.
I can get into the BIOS and change configuration but it never boots.A bird in the hand is worth a foot in the tush-Kelly Bundy -
Could be that the cd-rom was going to begin with, which might explain the bad restores.

Yeah that machine is taking a trip back to the store for an exchange if it were me.
Meanwhile who is Averatec ? -

I got it at Samsclub for 899.00, so yeah its a budget model. Its 1.67Ghz, 512 RAM, and has a DVD burner, I was excited to get such a good deal but now I really wonder.
I have never had a machine fail to quick and get this screwed. I grew dependent on the idea that no matter how bad it got, you can always boot from cd and rebuild the harddrive. But now I am freaked it wouldnt even respond to that.A bird in the hand is worth a foot in the tush-Kelly Bundy -
I'd just go exchange it and give it a second chance. Failure can happen with any hardware. One machine sucking is not nessasarly cause for alarm. Now if the 2nd one sucks also get your money back.Originally Posted by devinemi83

Yeah, you're right. I am just pissed off right now over this whole thing. I will exchange it for another of the same model but if that one fails as well, I am done with this brand.
