  1. so I've created a motion menu in DVD LAV (pro) and done a test burn..at the end of the menu, for about 1 second, there is a wicked flickering of the last frame (alternates last frame / white really fast) before the menu repeats...I thought maybe something was off re the audio vs. video, so I removed the audio from the menu, but same result..and, when I play the mpeg for the background motion in a regular preview window, it's fine, which leads me to believe that something that dvdlab is doing on the compile is causing this..anyone recognize this??

edit: and actually, the same dvd plays fine on my PC (nero showtime, etc.) which leads me to believe that something in the way dvdlab is structuring the video at the end of the menu is causing this..and, I've compiled plenty of non-motion menus w/ dvdlab, so it's something unique to motion menus...anyway, if this sounds familiar, I'd be interested to see if anyone's solved this..

I've seen this in studio menus as well. I think you will find it is the player holding the last frame of the clip while it searches for the start again. PC's rarely have this problem as they tend to cache data, whereas your player doesn't. As a general rule I try to make loop points at a fade or similar effect.

  3. yeah, I've seen a last frame get held, but not the flicker...I re-encoded the motion in procoder and on one test, it didn't happen..not sure if it's the structure of the encoded stream or just something different about it, but that may have fixed it (we'll know shortly for all the menus)...the weird part was that it was happening consistently on all of the menus, not just one..anyway, I am recompiling now & we'll see - I may not get to know exactly what it was

  4. As I explained on that other BBS, this is a player fault, not a dvdlab fault. Some just do it better than others.

  5. yeah..it was just odd since the player I use for testing (at my desk) has never done that before..it must be something specific about the player (sony) and that specific set of streams b/c when I re-encoded (different encoder & different bitrate), it works fine .. at the end of the menu, the frame is held while the player goes back to the beginning of the menu (frame stays but does not flicker)...hmm..we'll I'm glad it's resolved anyway..thanks alot
