  1. I have recorded some TV using a Dvico FusionHDTV Lite card. It plays back fine on my pc. The recorded file has captured the free-to-air's multiple channel streams (eg the channel guide as well as the normal viewing channel).

However when I try to convert to DVD, I first demux using PVAStrumento and then when I try and edit the demuxed video file, the wrong stream is displayed in the editor, I get the channel guide.

Is there a program that can select which stream you want to work with? Or is another method the solution?

B.T.W. If you haven't guessed already I'm a newbie to HDTV conversion etc. I have been using the above mentioned programs defaults.

    Thanks for any response.

Ensure the stream is good with this

Turn it into a regular MPEG file with this

When I have used HDTVtoMPEG2 in the past, it can see the different streams that it has captured, but when I choose a particular stream the resolution is all stuffed up on the conversion. Is there a particular setting that needs to be changed to recitfy this?

One thing I have found with DVICO & PVAstrumento ...

If you are capturing the stream as a '.TP' file (which is the DVICO default), PVAStrumento mis-interprets this file type and doesn't correctly extract the streams.
However if you change the '.TP' extension to '.TS' PVAStrumento correctly analyses the file and you should get all the streams extracted cleanly.

Alternately you can use ProjectX to extract the streams, which correctly supports 'TP' files.

  8. Here's what I've done now,

Updated HDTVtoMPEG2 to 1.11 beta, processed different captured .ts files, same result, it will see the different streams but no matter what stream I work with the output in Media Player is garbage (ie no sound, no video, no sync)

Tried Mpeg2repair, each file I tried said it could not find audio, even though audio has been captured. ???? Continued on and fixed like it said to do, finished file reacts in same way as original file.

Womble Mpeg2vcr just locks up the pc when you try to load a file

TMPGenc Mpeg Editor will not recognise .ts ot .tp files

    dgmpgdec locks up like Womble

Is there anything else I should try ??

Has anyone successfully captured Aust free to air HDTV streams and converted to DVD at all??? If so what process have you used????

    Yep - frequently.

Just finished processing a captured 3.5hr broadcast HDTV using the Dvico FusionHDTV Lite card.

    Here's what I usually do.

    - Capture in TP mode.
    - Use ProjectX to demux the TP streams. (the latest cap produced a MPV stream at 50fps, a Stereo AC3 stream at and 3 Stereo MP2 streams - all found within the TP file).
    - I then use either Mpeg2Schnitt or Cuttermaran (they both have strengths and weaknesses) to edit out the unwanted bits (i.e. commercials) from the separated streams.
    - then use AviSynth to frame serve the MPV file to either TMPGenc or CCEBasic to re-encode to DVD standard and DVD file size.
    - Then use TMPGenc DVD Author to author the re-encoded MPV file together with the commercial-free AC3 audio file.

Note: If capturing normal SDTV (i.e. 25fps) I often don't need to re-encode the MPV stream - just author it directly and use DVDShrink to make it fit on a DVD.

Video re do will enable you to select your streams and gives you a view of all the streams available.
It costs some money but when you are new at this it is worth it, plus the support is good as well.
You can also adjust audio sync and alter bit rates and gop lengths.
