  1. I have a Pinnacle older model capture card, windows xp pro. Windvd creator 2. I have used this set up in the past to capture from vhs tape to my computer to place on dvd. I also used the direct record function as well.

It has been a while since I used this, but now everytime that I go into the software, I can see the picture and hear the audio from the vhs tape playing through the vcr in the window in the windvd creator 2 software. Howver, when I click on the capture button, the picture disappears from the viewing window. The sound remains. Also If I try to do direct record, the software opens up to the page where I can pick my dvd drives for the input (don't know why, I dso not see the capture card listed), and then the program closes.

    Any ideas???

  2. I am still having this issue. Now when I click stop capture, the windvd creator program closes on its own. Please if anyone has any suggestions I am open to them.

I have thougth about going to one of those USB cables that hooks directly to a VCR or camcorder to do capturing with. Any thoughts on this one, Belkin USB Video Bus?

A guy that I used to work with had this and he swore by it.

It's clear that you have a corruption issue of your software and most likely your operating system. Have you tried un-installing and re-installing the software? No viruses on your computer? What have you installed since you used this software last. Win XP service pack 2 maybe if running XP? What video card are you running? Also Pinnacle is well known for corrupting it's own capture drivers. Pinnacle is bottom of the line, consumer, Mom and Pop software. The stuff given aware as a freebee with DVD Drives and Capture cards.

  4. I am using the WDM Video Capture Driver
    for Bt848 / Bt849 / Bt878 & Bt879 Chipsets.

    drivers.

I have reinstalled Win dvd creator. Since I used it successfully the last time I have reinstalled my WIN XP Pro OS.

Not using the SP2 Update. No viruses that I know of. Video card is ATI Radeon 7500.

I want to be able to convert my HI8 tapes to dvd, and possibly my older purchased VHS movies as well. I have converted all of my old home movies, so now I just need this available to do future ones, or some for my parents. A new device is definetely not out of the picture, but I don't want to spend a great deal of money for one just for this task. A maximum of about 50 dollars.

  5. Can't comment on your hardware but I use Intervideo's s/w with my Plextor M402U. The s/w was real crash prone prior to the Dec. released update. Check Pinnacles web site or Pextor's for updating your WinDVD Creator s/w, maybe that'd help.
The M402U uses a differnt chip than Pinnacle so the software update thru Plextor may not work in your situation but you could always rre-install. It's worth a shot if you can't get help thru Pinnacle.

  6. I fixed my problem, somewhat. I unplugged the cables, reconnected them, and now I see the video in the preview pane fine. I did do a uninstall and reinstall of the software just in case. Still not the best software as far as Windvdcreator2, but I only have been using that for the capture part anyway. I am now using DVD Author to vreate a Cinderella DVD from the VHS tape that we own.

Main issue of not being able to capture fixed.
