Need to know what "codecs" are needed to capture and convert vhs to dvd with this tool have managed to capture but when trying to encode withTMPEGEnc keep getting error codes saying "not supported", anyone any ideas,I am using the capture software that came with it "EZDVse",or is there an other capture software that is better than the Canopus one, who don't seem to have any support for this software now.I used this software and had no problems with Win 98se but have upgraded to Win xp home edition and have had nothing but problems, seems I have lost some of my "codecs" along the way, any advice would be welcome.

*Movie Maker2 instructions.
1. Capture from Video Device
2. Select DV Device
3. Name the capture file (note directory)
4. Video Setting = "Digital Device Format (DV-AVI)"
5. Capture manually, capture the portion of the tape of interest.
Done.
Note: Expect 13.5GB per hour of DV material. -
advc should have shipped with the canopus DV codec. If not you can probably download it from canopus.
Read my blog here.

download the panasonic codec. i use the capture program SCENALYZER LIVE. then use TMPGE to encode, TMPGE DVD AUTHOR to author and NERO to burn.

Thanks for the info ,regarding the canopus codec ,I looked at that but it says "not to install if ezdv is already installed".
Have managed to capture the video but when I come to encode it I get a "green screen" , -
Hmmm those solid colored screens are usually associated with Macrovision copyright protection. Is the tape really old, used a lot, 3 rd 4th generation? I don't know what the Canopus does when it detects MV so I'm just guessing here.... I probably should experment.
Edit: You said you can capture it? Can you play it? -
My ADVC-50 did not come with any programs to install or any Codecs (as edDV says) the Canopus Codec is in the ADVC unit. The only program that it won't capture with is Virtualdub, but installation of the Panasonic Codec lets me open any captured file to edit. The Panasonic Codec isn't needed if you don't want to use Virtualdub.
As a suggestion, try uninstalling ESDV and don't try to install the Canopus Codec - just see if you can capture and encode using the programs suggested by edDV (also DVAPP is another useful one) and then see if the resulting capture can be encoded.
Using the likes of DVAPP, Windows Movie Maker (1/2), Edit Studio and TMPGEnc, I have not had to load a single Codec or special software to make the Canopus work.
Hope that this is helpful.
@ The Coalman - The Canopus ADVC-100 has an automatic Macrovision defeat funtion, so this shouldn't be an issue. However, the Maorovison on the ADVC-50 shows as a 'brown haze' over the film at regular intervals.

You could try codec sniper, it might identify codec problems for you. Be careful using it..... might want to get some advice if you find anything.

Do you have areally old Canopus, the recent ones you need to use the input button "hack" to turn it off. I've also seen reports that hte newer ones such as mine it doesn't work.
