    Hello,

Just went to a video store in LIVONIA that was going out of business. Man it had a TON of LASERDISCS for sale! AND BETA!! Man I hadn't seen BETA in years since my family sold our old one several years ago.

What are LASERDISCS going for now on EBAY????? I might go back and see if there are any that might fetch some big bucks - I don't have a laserdisc player though...

I only just recently dumped a couple of BETA machines and some of those videotapes after almost 25 years of use.

My LD collection is also gone now and taken over by DVD and the LD player and movies have gone to a friend 2 years ago.

The LD collection was mostly as NTSC from the States.

He still got the machine and only a handful of LD movies still there at his place.

He is only using the LD player for music CDs and a couple of ‘The Beatles’ LD as too good to let it go.

As you can guess, a ‘Beatles’ fan even though the group broken up 35 years ago.

Anyway, I am now with HDD PVR and a digital DVD recorder.

I still got that ancient VHS machine on standby near and hardly used much.

They're rare and I don't recall having any with DTS.

Anyway, my LD Player didn't have the essential parts and connection for AC3, Dolby Digital or DTS.

I did have these LD titles: Independence Day and Jurassic Park.

I don't remember the LDs having DTS though. They were USA NTSC discs.

The sound didn't matter on my old machine anyway.

  6. No they DID exist very rare though, this seems to have been transmitted through to dvd with Armageddon DTS and Jurassic Park Superbit (both Japanese) being about the rarest dvd's you can own.

I have about 40 DTS laser disks -- DTS used to send them to me ..

    all in storage now ..

i remember casper, jurassic park, toy story, austin powers, apollo 13 and many others ...

jurassic park DTS LD sounds awesome -- even better than the DVD ..

DAMN YOU! I don't even have a DTS DVD version! I bought my JURASSIC PARK dvd back when I was still new to DVD. I figured that there was only one edition that had both DOLBY and DTS - boy was I wrong! Now I can't really justify buying a second copy of it when all I have to do is crank up the DOLBY a little --- I do have DTS on my system I just don't want to fork over the money for two copies...

    Hello,

Nope. Still can't justify spending more money for the same movie - especially when it's NOT EVEN STARWARS! :P

Besides - the only reason to do superbit would be the sound as I don't have HDTV.

    Kevin

EDIT - Ok I do own multiple copies of the original trilogy:

ORIGINAL THX vhs release - the last copy of the original available (full screen )
    Special Edition vhs FULL screen
Special Edition vhs WIDESCREEN second release - 2000 print
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

    Hello,

Oh ok. But no bonuses in SUPERBIT so it's kinda empty.

I think I'll still pass on it.

Kevin, I know you were new on DVD then and I do look out for DTS when ordering from the States as DTS is much better in sound.

You should have noticed two versions of the U.S. releases on some titles.

I always choose DTS over Dolby Digital and I have done that successfully a number of times from the U.S.

Unfortunately, in Australia DTS is limited here as there are some releases like that having both Dolby Digital and DTS.

However, not as separate releases like those the U.S.

Kevin, it is only money and I have replaced some DVDs I'm not happy with.

This is one example; I bought the U.S. version of 'Eyes Wide Shut' and then later got the Australian version as unedited showing the 'sexual content'.

I also replaced some Australian released DVDs with the U.S. DVDs for the same reason plus better image and sound with the extras.

Kevin, get another copy as DTS of a title you want. Get it.

Superbit got a higher bit rate than normal DVDs offering better image and sound without the extras.

If you have the money, expect to pay more for them.

Doesn't have to viewed on HDTV and Superbit can be watched and appreciated on normal analog TV.

Kevin, you must be Star War buff and love sci fi stuff.

Anyway, my 'Star War Trilogy' is the new DVD release of last September 2004.

    They are as PAL.

I've been seeing some new Superbit edition DVDs with extras coming out lately. Maybe they wised up. I think the extras are on a second disc but at least people will stop whining. :P

It's a classic. Especially watching the Diva's dance moves. I think I spit pop on someone in the theater when I saw that the first time.

Any Laserdiscs not available on DVD will sell for something decent on eBay.

Check for Siege of Firebase Gloria and Platoon Leader which are not on DVD (Platoon Leader was available from some southeaset asia country on VCD at one time and Siege of Firebase Gloria is being sold as a pirate DVD on eBay).

Sliver is one example as no longer commercially available and never on DVD.

I did have LD of Sliver and I would like a copy of this on DVD.

I did put an email subscription for an alert on this when a release of this title becomes available on DVD.

The reason I want that movie is that I am a 'Sharon Stone' fan?

She is a lovely and fine actor as I do like her.

I got 'Basic Instinct' on DVD as this is something.

Laserdiscs? My neighbor had some. But I don't know where he is now or what he did with all the discs, but he had a good collection. I remember it playing "Free Willy" when he showing it off.

I almost got a Beta machine for free. There was one in an old high school. He would have given it to me, but when we tried to run it it no working.

I afraid VHS could become like these. You not see as much VHS as you used to. I don't want VHS to go away.
