I've read multiple guides on how to use these programs and I've tried them severeal ways, but I have one question.....What is the difference in using just DVD Shrink to Open the Disc and let it encode to an iso file as compared to using DVD Decryptor to extract the files and then Encode it with Shrink ??? Is there really a difference in those two ways I've just described? I've seen both guides and Im just wondering which will give me the safer file......Also to tag on a quick question Why would one movie play fine on one dvd player, and on the other it would start to break up and pixilate and freeze after 2 hours into the movie? Same disc now....Thanks For All Of Your Help.

Hello,
Yeah if you use just DVD SHRINK you are ripping AND encoding directly off the disc. Thus saving harddrive space.
If you rip to iso with dvd decrypter and then open and transcode with dvd shrink you will be putting the movie on twice. Your preference.

Your second question is a little harder to answer. First, it would depend on the player. Check the player lists to the left to see if they are compatible. Then the media has a effect on compatibility, both R+ and R- and the brand of media. Lastly, the method of encoding and burning and the software and burner used. There is a lot of variables. You just have to juggle things around and see what works.

Some has mentioned they perfer to use DVD Decryptor first to rip the files to their hard drive then encode using Shrink cause it prolongs the life of their DVD-ROM/Burner.
The rip only is alot quick and thus accesses the dvd unit alot less then ripping and encoding.
My self, I perfer to just let DVD Shrink do its magic as it is a 1 step process as opposed to a 2 step process using DVD Decryptor and Shrink.
Also, if the unit failure part holds true, I think I'd rather have my DVD unit fail then putting the extra stress of having an addition 4-10 gigs added to the hard drive then have to delete.
Alot more fragmentation could possiblity occur, but its really up to you.....A 1 step process with possible future DVD unit failure or a 2 step process with possible future hard drive failure.
The choice is yours, as both products are excellent, but I think I'll stick to the lazy and cheaper replacement route by using Shrink.

Thanks guys for the input. One final question...When wanting to back up one of the movies with the new copy protection such as the grudge, ray, little black book...I would want to stick to the method of using decryptor first and then shrinking it with dvd shrink correct? Thank You.
