  1. Could we get a list of rebadged DVD burners going? When I bought my Pioneer 105, I bought a Cendyne for less$$.

I've heard that Buffalo will have a rebadged Pioneer109.
    What about NEC? Sony? BenQ?

    Thanx!

I/O MAGIC 16x DUAL LAYER BURNERS are either rebadged BENQ 1620 or BTC which is not the greatest burner.

Look at the SPECS on the I/O MAGIC box if it says 2.4x speed for DUAL LAYER DVD+R media then it is a BENQ 1620 drive. If it says 4x speed DUAL LAYER DVD+R media then it is a BTC drive.

All the SONY dvd burners are rebadged LITEON drives. SONY no longer manufactures their own dvd burners.

actuly that btc drive aint half too bad

with good media is very good, but with junk media like any burner is crap, the btc at high speeds aint the best either but at around 8-12x with good media its a great drive

    MicroAdvantage and Pacific Digital.

Does anyone know who manufactures these?

I read on another forum where the latest BenQ has the 4x speed for DVD + R DL,,,if so, is there any other "foolproof" way to indentify the contents of the box, rather than opening it? How about the BenQ listing 40x CD write speed, and the BTC listing 48X? I need some definte things to look at, prior to going to the store, can anybody provide more "tips"?
    thanks,

The specs I provided are fool proof. When purchasing the I/O MAGIC 16x burner that is a BENQ 1620 drive it will be 2.4x DUAL LAYER DVD+R then you upgrade the drive with the official firmware B7P9 or B7T9 it will become a 4x DUAL LAYER DVD+R burner. The key is the reading the specs on the box. My first purchase of the I/O MAGIC 16x burner was a BTC drive which had 4x DUAL LAYER DVD+R specs. I didn't know about that until I read it off the BENQ FORUM at cdfreaks.com. I returned the drive and ended up purchasing 2 of them from OFFICE DEPOT which were BENQ 1620's.

Here's what the back of the box will look like for the rebadged BENQ 1620 see where it says 2.4x DVD+R DL that will tell you it's a 1620.

We don't have a Staples here in Honolulu, Hawaii. I paid a total of $84.00 after rebates for the 2 rebadged BENQ 1620's that I have. Not a bad price for 2 drives. Good Luck in getting a BENQ 1620. If you fail to get one check out COMPUSA or OFFICE DEPOT.

The I/O Magic Drives list the firmware revision on the box. If it is B7K9 or B7P9 it is the 1620. The 1620's all have this firmware formula on them.

The 2 I/O MAGIC drives rebadged BENQ 1620's I bought did not have any FIRMWARE REVISION on the box. The BTC ones did have the FIRMWARE sticker on the top of the box. The sure thing is to look at the SPECS. as I pointed out.

  17. Alright, I just bought 2 OEM Samsung(Toshiba) TS-552B drives last month from Microcenter. Great deal.
Does Samsung make their own drives?
By the way these work better then my getting older Sony 530a.

    Thanks

Have you ever seen a BenQ inside, with the 2.4X and 48X on the outside of box? I saw some at my local store that had the 2.4x +RDVD DL as you stated, but it also had the 48X CD write speed, and not the 40X.

Nope I haven't seen the 48x on the outside of the box. Last week I did see the I/O MAGIC at COMPUSA were BENQ 1620 drives but the specs were 40x. I can't remember where I saw someone post that the 2.4x DL speed was on the box but the drive ended up being a crappy BTC drive. It was either at cdrlabs or the BENQ FORUM at cdfreaks.com.

I was at the local COMPUSA today and saw the I/O MAGIC 16x drives but they were all BTC. The other dead give away is there is a white sticker on the top of the box that gives the BTC FIRMWARE A0F something.....
